Tourism

ATC Podlesok is ideally located for those who are interested in hiking. Camp is situated in the tourist center Podlesok which is attractive not only because of nature of the Slovak Paradise, but also because of its vicinity. Area around the camping is ideal for hiking and cycling with less or more demanding routes.

All hiking paths in the National Park Slovak Paradise is open to the public all year round.

Canyons

Water from the territory of NP conducts two major rivers : HORNÁD,flowing to the north and HNILEC, flowing to the south. Those rivers created two canyons: Prielom Hornádu in the north and Stratenský kaňon in the south. Both are available to the public.

Slovak Paradise is considered as one of the most beautiful areas in Slovakia. Areas of the mountain range Slovak Paradise are protected by NP Slovak Paradise, which is one of nine national parks in Slovakia .It has an area of about 210 square kilometer in the district Spišská Nová Ves, Poprad and Rožňava, rivers Hornád and Hnilec, the highest peak Veľká Knola (1266 mnm) and Havrania skala (1157 mnm). It is characterized by gorges, streams and waterfalls which are available for tourists in the form of paths.

Suchá Belá

Sucha BelaSprings of the gorge are at the northern edge of the Glac plateau.The stream runs into the White water near Podlesok. The history of the process of discovering the Dry Belá started in 1900. The first passage through the whole ravine in the winter season was achieved by A. Mervay and his group in March 1910.The whole ravine (including the Misové Waterfalls) was open to public by the Mountain Rescue Service in 1957.

Piecky

PieckyThe ravine and its immediate surroundings have been declared by the Mountain Rescue Service in 1964. Piecky starts at the village Píla (579 m). The stream that flows through the ravine , springs in the western slopes of Gľac and it joins the Veľké Biele vody (Big White Waters) at the village Píla. The lower part of the creek up to its division into smaller creeks is called Biele vody (White Waters), too. The first passage through the ravine was achieved by A. Mervay and his fellows in 1911.

Veľký Sokol (Big Falcon)

A difficult and demanding circle. It is demanding for its length (21 km) and exposed ascent in the gorge secured by ladders, steps, chains and a footbridge. Velky SokolA robust and long ravine at the western end of the Gľac plateau. Both banks of the ravine have the shape of very steep stone walls that are up to 300 m high. The first passage through the ravine was realised by Prof. M. Róth, Dr. N. Filarský and M. Karoliny on August 20, 1898. At the end of the ravine, there is situated the Róth ravine, named after one of the most famous Slovak Paradise guides. A memorial board was placed to the entrance of the Róth ravine.

Sokolia dolina (Falcon Valley)

Falcon Valley is one of the wildest ravines in the Slovak Paradise. Sokolia dolina It is situated at the northern end of the Gľac plateau. The first passage (in both directions) was successfully realised in April 1910. The first passage in winter season was recorded in 1912. The path was marked for tourists in 1913 for the first time. In Falcon Valley is situated the highest waterfall -Závojový vodopád (75m). You can hike through the waterfall directly climbing over more than 80 m of ladders and clenches.

Prielom Hornádu (Hornád Canyon)

Sprielom HornaduHornád Canyon is about 12 km long stretch in the upper part of the Hornád river flow - from the estuary of the Veľké Biele vody (Big White Waters) to the Smižanská Maša village. The winter passage through the narrow is also charming. It is part of a National Nature Reserve Prielom Hornádu. The first part of the trip is in exposed canyon-like stretch of the Prielom Hornádu canyon. Footbridges, chains, steps, and ladders secure it.The second part of the trip is in comfortable terrain on forest paths
